Schloss Reinbek on a sunny Easter Monday 22.04.2019

I was living only 2km away from this castle and used to visit there quite often – for a classical concert in the castle, for a jog, for a long walk.

Even though this castle is only a few km away from the border between Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, which is the 2nd biggest city in Germany, not many are familiar with this fine premise.

On the other hand, one of the advantages of castles in the suburbs is that many of them weren’t affected by air raids during the wars, through they might have been used otherwise for the war or as a shelter or a hospital…
Schloss Reinbek was build in the 16th Century  between 1572 and 1576 in the Dutch Runaissance style and is offering a nice castle in bricks and a huge park along the Bille – no it’s not a lake but a river going through the area and Hamburg. On a sunny day like this, you cannot say no to a nice long walk. The final restoration work of the castle took lance between 1977 and 1987, and it became the cultural center of the region.

The restaurant offers three different rooms and you can enjoy nice food in the castle atmosphere. If the weather is nice, you can sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee by overlooking the river Bille with dock families and the gorgeous Villas on the other shore.

By the way, I also didn’t know that it wasn’t a lake in fronting the castle and just try to run around ‘it,’ when I started run in the area regularly.

I must say it was a nice challenge and I ran about 1.5 hours just wondering when I can close the circle – no, it’s not possible. After wandering about the forest, I managed to come back home after 2 hours 🙂 Otherwise the area offers several nice routes in the forest with a lot of ups and downs, which is ideal for the training. I always enjoyed the run there, and I will definitely go there for another run again.
